What is Reiki?

Reiki, pronounced RAY-kee, is the Japanese word for "Universal Life Energy." It is a form of noninvasive subtle energy medicine that that supports the body's natural healing mechanisms and has its roots in ancient healing techniques. It was rediscovered in the mid 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui and brought to the United States in the early 1900's by Hawayo Takata. Reiki is NOT a religion or belief system, but a simple and gentle healing technique that stimulates the body's natural healing processes. Thus, it has the potential to treat at the root cause of disease. There are no side effects, and Reiki wonderfully complements all other healing modalities.

Reiki has spread rapidly throughout the U.S. as people have increasingly discovered the healing value of this simple technique. Research indicates that Reiki is a valuable stress and pain management technique. More healthcare professionals are learning Reiki and beginning to incorporate it into patient care. Reiki is now being more regularly used in the Emergency Room, ICU, Recovery Room, Oncology Unit, and in Hospice Care, to name a few applications. While Reiki is not a "quick fix," it can be applied to any healing or therapeutic setting.
